The FUN Stuff!

June 23rd, 2011: 6 weeks, 4 days

1st doctor visit since positive pregnancy tests.

Dr. Nash confirmed I was pregant and we were able to see that the baby implanted in the right spot (i.e. the uterus) and was the exact right size (the size of a lentil bean). We could even see the movement of the little tiny heart beat. :)

It sank in after this confirmation. We were very excited! I, of course, knowing that 80% of miscarriages happen within the first 12 weeks, was still a little apprehensive about getting too excited.

July 1, 2011: 7 weeks, 5 days

2nd visit to doctor.

We had another ultrasound and the baby had gotten 4x bigger (now the size of a kidney bean)!!! It was crazy. We could see the heart beat even stronger. Dr. Nash told us that I was gestating well. :)

August 4, 2011: 12 weeks, 4 days

I thought the day would never come. I was so anxious to get past 12 weeks, and it was finally here. We got to hear the heartbeat! It took Dr. Nash a few seconds to find it - and it was loud and clear. :)

August 5, 2011: 12 weeks, 5 days

We went in for a genetic screening appointment at a seperate facility down the street from our regular doctor. The screening entailed an ultrasound and blood test and determines your risk for genetic disorders, such as Trisomy 18, Downs Syndrome, or other neural tube defects.

This was, by far, the most fun ultrasound yet. At this point, the baby was about the size of a lime. But - it looked like a real baby, with a spine and brain and all! You could see right through the skin. The technician jiggled my tummy around and we got to see the baby wake up and move its self all around. We found it to be adorable already. ;)

The doctor checked out the ultrasound and took a measurement behind the neck. His verdict was that all looked good - as far as he could tell so far.
